Bio of the Artist:

Pablo Power was born in a log cabin in rural Maryland and spent his formative years in the seamy, creative crucible of 1980's and 90's Miami. His earliest work as a teenager began with writing and painting his visual mantra on the surfaces of Miami’s urban wasteland.  Power moved to New York to study at Parsons School of Design and School of Visual Arts. While creating his first pieces in studio, he continued his outdoor painting  campaign, inspired by the sprawling, Dinkins-era urban wilderness of his new home. After years of carrying a camera to document his public works across America and abroad, his focus widened to let the frame capture more than just the painting on a wall, but also the environment and bizarre characters that surrounded him. Eventually the painting became incidental to the photo, then faded into the background, and finally disappeared completelyWith only a camera, Power has since embedded himself in and then photographed various marginalized communities across America, sometimes completely changing his appearance and living in the streets and motels with his subject matter as he records their time together. In his most recent work, Power layers his photographs with drawn and painted elements, including conversations with his documentary subjects and his own writings, which allude to the illustrated texts and textures that have been at the core of Power’s
work from the beginning.
