Bio of the artist:

Stephan Doitschinoff is a self-taught artist, born in 1977 in São Paulo, Brazil, where he is currently based.  As the son of an Evangelical minister, Doitschinoff spent his childhood absorbing the visual vocabulary of religious art. As an artist, he has developed his own unique language and style through imagery that creatively combines Afro-Brazilian folklore with Baroque religious iconography, as well as Alchemic and Pagan symbolism. He has exhibited in galleries in the U.S., Brazil and Europe, including the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP) and the Museum of Contemporary Arts of San Diego (MACSD). From 2005 to 2008, the artist traveled throughout the Brazilian countryside of Bahia, painting murals on adobe houses, chapels and a cemetery, occasionally collaborating with local artisans. Visuals from the trip are documented in his 2008 book, Calma: The Art of Stephan Doitschinoff (published by Gestalten), and are also the subjects of a short documentary film, called: TEMPORAL. In 2012, Gestalten published his second monograph, Cras.
