ELAINE SU-HUI CHEW works primarily with paper combining printmaking, painting and collage to explore the connection between the physical world and the transcendental. Using themes such as medicine, ritual, superstition and place, Elaine Su-Hui highlights the enigmatic aspects of objects and environments to create shifts in perspective of our everyday world. Her reverence for various cultural approaches to metaphysics, cosmology and natural phenomena draws deeply upon the contemporary experience of belonging to multiple places, and how a consciousness steeped in multiple perspectives enables a richer translation of our environment and ourselves.
Born and raised in Australia, she now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
