About the Artist:

Monica Canilao , Xara ThustraEktor Garcia & Elena Stonaker worked in collaboration on a mural in Villas Tulum, Mexico, a small neighborhood on the outskirts of a town that is becoming overrun by rich tourists and development. The painting is the tree of life turned on it's side in the midst of so much development, corruption and change. The tree has been pushed over, but remains bright and still grows, just as the indigenous spirits, the land and people of Tulum are working to survive and thrive. Like roots breaking through cement, the spirit stays in tact and fights to keep its ground as the landscape changes and is stolen away. Depicted in the image are two Mayan goddesses who watch over and protect the history and people of Mexico.
